Master cylinder for antilock brakes - has sprung base in cylinder to absorb pressure pulses and protect seals

The master brake cylinder of the anti lock brakes is fitted with a sprung bottom (13) to absorb pressure pulses without damaging the piston seal (10) when this passes the vent hole (11). The sprung bottom is held in the blind bore of the cylinder by an integral spring. The sprung fitting prevents the edge of the piston seal being pushed into the vent hole if the brake modulation occurs when the piston starts to move.
