The isostatic press is for ceramic materials, a metered quantity of granulate being formed into shaped by vibration or falling freely under gravity. It is then initially compressed so as to give sufficient rigidity for transport, without appreciable re-expansion taking place. The material is transported, adhering to or lying on the lower punch, and finally isostatically compressed between the latter and a second upper punch, to give the desired final rigidity.
