Safety insert for car seat support - has toothed plate to block suspension under impact force of collision

The inside of the seat squab has a special insert with forward facing ratchet edges (25, 26) which move forward with the squab under collision force. These slide onto retaining flanges on the fixed part of the seat support and lock the downward movement of the squab. The ratchet edges provide a rigid stability for the seat during a collision. It prevents the seat occupant from dipping out of the seat belt due to the depression of the squab. The insert and retaining flanges can be fitted into existing designs of squab.
