The box holding the map cassettes consists of a top and a bottom part, and has a cover or a flap for the map cassette insertion, so that the top side has different system fields corresponding to the function chambers in the bottom part. A wide grid has numbers and letters in order to coordinate map movement. The North-South and East-West movement is controlled by knobs on the side, otherwise it is driven by a motor. A lateral illumination device in the bottom part illuminates the map strip, and an index strip printed on both sides is differently illuminated. The device is operated by a battery or through a cable from an external current source.
