In an envelope processing machine in which opened envelopes 24 are serially presented by the machine to a work station in the machine for manual removal or insertion of the contents of each serially presented envelope, there are means operating responsive to the removal of an operative's hand from a presented envelope to initiate, after a further elapse of time, the feed of a further envelope, unless in the meantime the hand is re-positioned adjacent the envelope. In a preferred embodiment the apparatus comprises a light source and a photoelectric cell 303 mounted in a spaced apart relationship to each other and to a presented envelope in the machine. <IMAGE> |
