The digital/analog converter is designed to operate using both the A-law and the mu-law. In the case of the mu-law, all bits in the digital signal are inverted and specified code words are constructed and added to n bits of the digital signal. A coder isused which employs the interativeprinciple so that at the network ends a constant current source may be applied to a section of the character recognition signals when the intervening stages are at a binary zero value.
