The quartz timepiece includes a chime mechanism (3) operating in sync with the drive for the timepiece hands, to provide a tone signal at given intervals. The synchronisation of the drive mechanism (3) is obtained via control pulses supplied by a capacitive electromagnetic or piezoelectric transducer (8) coupled to the drive for the hands. Alternatively these control pulses may be supplied by a cam follower acted on by cam discs positioned on the hours shaft and the minutes shaft and arranged next to the another so that their cam edges are aligned.
