The motor vehicle lifting platform is of the two-column type, having a screwed spindle in each column working in a nut supporting the lifting platform truck. It also includes a locknut below the spindle nut and an emergency stopping device. The latter has a switch blade and an actuating mechanism functioning on a fault, e.g. when the distance between the nuts alters or truck movement lags behind that of the nuts. The switch blade has a pressure hose extending along the lifting path and connecting to a switch. The latter is actuated by pressure generated by relative movement between components of the actuating mechanism.
