A rotor (11) for a caliper brake (10) with the rotor mounted on a cylindrical adaptor (26). Prior rotors have been cut from plate steel, costly, due to excess scrap, and the rotors when contacted by brake shoes have generated undesirable noise and vibration. The solution to the above problem is making the rotor by coiling a strip of steel into a disc shape, with the radial discontinuity between adjacent coils acting as a barrier to vibrations and noise. The rotor (11) includes a coiled metal strip (54) having a rectangular cross section with edge surfaces (55, 56) aligned to provide friction faces for engagement by friction lining carriers (43, 45) of the brake and decreasing the vibration and noise during braking. |
