<p>A Warehouse storage system enabling the selective storage and movement of a plurality of abutting pallets (P, AP) while providing efficient usage of all available floor space. The system includes a pair of adjacent transfer aisles (A1, Ar), a plurality of longitudinally aligned compartments (11) in each of the transfer aisles (A1, Ar) sized to accommodate the pallets (P, AP), a plurality of storage rows (15) extending laterally of the transfer aisles (A1, Ar), and a plurality of compartments (16) in the storage rows (15) aligned with the compartments (11) in the transfer aisles (A1, Ar). The transfer aisle compartments (11) include either of two embodiments (Figs. 4 or 11) which have a track system (51, 251) engageable by wheels (27, 227) on the pallets (P, AP) with movable track sections (65, 265) in the track system (51, 251) to permit movement of the pallets (P, AP) in two angular directions, the wheels (27, 227) rollably supporting the pallet (P, AP) on the track system (51, 251) upon movement in either of the two angular directions. A pallet drive system (90) in each transfer aisle compartment (11) is positionable to drive a pallet (P, AP) in a selected direction to the compartments (16) in the storage rows or to other compartments (11) in the transfer aisles (A1, Ar). </p> |
