摘要 PURPOSE:To lower the noises of recording and reproducing signals and to enhance the grade of the magneto-optical memory element by projecting light energy over a wide range on the magneto-optical memory element so that the light energy thereof is absorbed in the magnetic recording film to increase the temp. thereof and by impressing a relatively weak magnetic field to the magnetic recording film in the heated up state from the outside to unify the directions of the magnetization to one direction. CONSTITUTION:Initialization of the magneto-optical memory element 12 is executed by energizing a coil 11 to generate the magnetic field H and impressing this magnetic field to the magneto-optical memory element 12 over the entire surface thereof. The entire surface of the magneto-optical memory element 12 is irradiated by the light from a light source 13. The light from the light source 13 transmits the transparent substrate of the magneto-optical memory element 12 and arrives at the magnetic film. The magnetic recording film absorbs the energy of the above-mentioned light over the entire area thereof and increases the temp. thereof. The coercive force Hc thereof is eventually lowered over the entire area. The directions of the magnetization are easily unified to one direction even by the relatively weak magnetic field H generated by the coil 11 when the coercive force Hc of the magnetic recording film lowers.
