摘要 PURPOSE: To reduce pressure in a high pressure column and further equally reduce electric power consumption, by achieving uniform contact between liquid phase and vapor phase by making use of structural packing in at least such a layer of a distillation column system, where argon concentration falls approximately within a specific range, and specifying a densimeter surface gas velocity as a specific value. CONSTITUTION: There is typically achieved with a 3-column distillation system air cryogenic temperature separation where there are produced nitrogen, oxygen, and argon products with argon concentration falling within about 0.6 to about 75% by volume. A distillation column in a process makes use of a column including a distillation tray. Typical theoretical tray numbers for a high pressure column, a low pressure column, and an argon column are 50, 70, and 40 respectively although they depend on relative values among selective circulation, product types, and a relative value between electric power and capital. An HETP calculation value indicates that use of a tested structural packing in addition to many required theoretical stages requires a column where its height is substantially increased to a column height exceeding allowable height using a tray use column. Unexpected improvement actually measured is that Kv is existent for a value of Kv that is a densimeter surface gas velocity in the column and exceeds about 0.06 ft/sec. The actually measured HETP does not exceed a predicted value for Kv less than 0.06 ft/sec.
