<p>PURPOSE:To improve the sound arresting effect of a muffler by providing in a cleaning tube a number of choking holes having a diameter of 1.8-5.5mm and making the ratio of the total area of the choking holes to the area of the section of an exhaust gas inducing tube 0.8-5.5. CONSTITUTION:A sound arresting tube 4 is formed of a pair of curved branches 4a and 4b which have different curvature and length with each other. The opening ends of respective branches 4a and 4b are disposed oppositely at a fixed distance therebetween. A second sound arresting tube 7 is fixed on a choking plate 5 projecting and opening in a second sound arresting chamber 8. The choking plate 5 functions in making the exhaust gas expand reducing the temperature. The soot and particles contained in the exhaust gas are collected in a collecting chamber 10. Conditions for the choking holes provided on the choking plates 5 and 9 and on the sound arrester 4' to allow the expansion of the exhaust gas are 1.8-5.5mm in diameter and the ratio of the total area of the choking holes to the area of the section of the exhaust gas inducing tube 3 is 0.8-5.5.</p> |
