The tubular cellulose covering which is loose or comprises a fibrous reinforcing structure contains a sufficient quantity of water and a glycerine-based plastifier in order to allow subsequent packing without requiring soaking prior to the packing. The covering also comprises propylene glycol as an antimycotic agent. This envelope is used for making sausages etc.
