A rotary cutting tool, such as an end mill, comprises a holder 10, rotatable about a longitudinal axis and having at one end a plurality of circumferentially spaced axially extending recesses 16 located at the periphery of the holder in which are positioned cutting inserts 10, 18 with their cutting edges 26 extending beyond the periphery of the holder. A slot 20 is formed in the holder end and which intersects the recesses so that the tightening of a member e.g. a screw 22 transversely extending through the holder and across the slot retains the inserts in a preorientated position in the recesses. The inserts which are complementary with the recesses may be cylindrical or semi-cylindrical. The inserts are indexable within the recesses. |
