PURPOSE:To prepare the title compound in high yield, by the carbonylation reaction of an alkyl-substituted lactone in a specific carboxylic acid, in the presence of a catalyst comprising a compound of a platinum-family compound having an iodine compound as a promoter. CONSTITUTION:A lactone having an alkyl substitution group of formula I (n is 2-4; R is alkyl), e.g. gamma-valerolactone, is carbonylated in a solvent of a carboxylic acid of formula II (n is 2-9), e.g. propionic acid, n-butyric acid, n-caproic acid, n-caprylic acid, etc., in the presence of a caralyst composed of a Pt-family compound (e.g. a Rh compound) using an iodine compound (e.g. methyl iodide) as a promoter, to obtain a dicarboxylic acid of formula III (R is alkyl or H), e.g. adipic acid, having n+1 carbon atoms. |
