The device, of which several variations are possible, is based on mechanical amplification by a series of pulleys. Continuous measurement flatness of a straight surface is possible without use of electronic circuits. Undulations in the inspected surface (a) cause rocking in an articulated arm (15) in contact with it. The small changes in inclination of the line of reference points on the main sensor arm (1) cause the displacement of a taut wire (3) which engages the pulleys (4) in rotation, the displacement being magnified by several pulley units. A travelling bogey (7) carries an arm and pen which produces a direct trace of all displacements. The system needs no restoring spring and operates continuously for either sense of displacement. Both amplification factor and tension in the wire may be regulated.
|
