Barbed wire making machine - twists corrugated hard wire with soft wire carrying barbs before winding onto take up drum

The barbed wire making equipment forms a continuous strand made of two wires twisted together, with the barbs twisted around one of the wires. One wire (3) is made of hard steel which is corrugated by passing it between corrugating wheels (7, 8) after it is unwound from a drum (9). The other wire (2) is of soft steel and after unwinding from a second drum (13) passes through a device (14) which winds the barbs (4) around it. Corrugating the hard wire and twisting the two wires together by passing round a guide wheel, facilitates their assembly. The combined wire is then wound onto a drum (20) guided by a reciprocating pulley (31). The drum is mounted on a frame which can turn about a vertical axis to assist winding on the drum.
