Agent for thinning out mandaring orange, contains as active component 2,3,5,6-tetrachlorophenylacetic acid (I), its salt, its lower alkyl ester, its amide or its anilide. Thinning out of young fruit provides stable prodn. of fruits and fruits with good quality. (I) or its derivs. which have been used as herbicide. Have thinning-out effect. Salts include, e.g. Na, K, Mg, Ca, dimethylamine, triethanoloamine salts. Lower alkyl esters include, e.g., methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl, n-butyl, sec-butyl, tert-butyl and 1-4C lower alkyl esters. Further, the anilide may contain chlorine, bromine or like halogen atom or methyl. The active compound is used by dispersing it in water, or it is used by mixing it with agricultural liquid or solid carrier. Liquid carriers include, e.g., xylene, benzene, toluene, alcohol acetone, methyl-naphthalene, cyclohexanone, diisobutylketone. Solid carriers include, e.g., bentonite, talc, kaolin, clay, diatomaceous earth.
