The two spools (13) are coaxially mounted one on either side of a partition wall (12) in housing (10). A tape spool (15) can be fitted onto each spool core (13) and tape (17) extends over the wall (12) from one spool to the other. One open end of housing (10) is closed by plate (11), to form the tape loop, units (12, 13, 15) are displaceable with respect to housing (10). When operating apparatus which does not accept cassettes, the wall (12) can be withdrawn from the housing (10) and spools (15) may be removed from spool cores (13). A latching device is included for the closure plate of the cassette housing.
