Rotating scanner for ocean bed - balances scanning movement by dependence on rotation of reception optics

The rotating scanner incorporates an active light source for scanning the ocean bed under deep sea conditions. The scanning movement is obtained by the rotation of the light source and the reception optic for the reflected beam, or by the rotation of the reception optic alone. The input window may rotate in conjunction with the reception optic, or a cylindrical input window may be used. Tangential errors are compensated by relative movement of the transmission and reception systems, or by the optical characteristics or by an additional optical system.
