The yarn guide system for a ring spinning or twisting machine has a deflecting edge on the guide to lead the yarn into the ballooning path. There is a narrow slit between the two guide surfaces for the yarn to travel through from above, from the feed unit. The deflecting edge is located in the lower edn zone of the slit, or narrowly spaced from it. The outlet of the lubricating jet is aligned at an angle above the deflecting edge. The design gives a system for lubricating the yarn evenly and consistently, without risk of build-up on the yarn gude, and with low lubricant consumption.
