A pharmaceutical for the treatment of hormone dependant tumours contains Indenestrol A of formula (I) (i.e. 3-ethyl-6-hydroxy-2-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)-1-methylindene), as the active ingredient, together with conventional inert physiologically acceptable carriers and auxiliaries. (I) inhibits mammary tumours. (I) hindered 7, 12-dimethyl-benz a - anthracene induced hormone dependent mammary carcinomas in Sprague Dawley rats more than other known non-steroid cpds. In addition (I) has a relatively low uterotropic potence in mice.
