<p>Induction and stimulation of growth, proliferation and other metabolic functions of plant, animal and bacterial cells comprises subjecting the cells to alternating electrical fields under sterile conditions in a suitable nutrient medium. In a new appts. for carrying out the above process, two electrodes are inserted into the culture vessel contg. the cells, suitably arranged for application of the alternating field. Alternating fields stimulate cell growth and proliferation, so that costly fermentation and cell culture processes proceed more rapidly and require smaller amounts of nutrient medium. The process enables substrates to be used that normally are not utilised by the cells concerned.</p> |
