1336882 Coating apparatus BRITISH INDUSTRIAL PLASTICS Ltd 19 April 1971 [13 March 1970] 12349/70 Heading B2L [Also in Division B5] A rotary valve applicator for applying a liquid in the form of discrete spots comprises a steel body 1 hollowed to provide a cylindrical chamber 2 which is closed by a plate 17, an inlet 3 and outlet 4 for the liquid and a shaft 5 rotatable in a carbon bushing 10. A circular steel plate 7, having a clearance of 0.020 inches with the walls of the chamber, is fastened to the shaft and is pegged via 22 to a circular valve plate 13 made of carbon, the latter having grooves 15 and a central recess 16 as shown in Fig. 2. A fluid-tight seal is effected between the valve plate and the closure plate 17 by means of a spring 19. In operation, liquid is forced under pressure through the inlet, passes down the sides of the chamber, along a groove of the rotating valve plate and out through the outlet, three "spots" of liquid emerging for each revolution of the plate. The applicator is used for applying spots of an accelerator solution onto a layer of slow-setting thermosetting adhesive. |
