1312186 Curing rubber W R GRACE & CO 19 April 1971 [10 March 1970] 23649/71 Heading C3E A composition suitable for curing an elastomeric polymer of 2-chloro-1,3-butadiene comprises (a) di-o-tolyl-guanidine, (b) 2-mercaptoimidazoline, and (c) dipentamethylene thiuram hexasulphide, the weight ratio of (a) : (b) : (c) being 1 : 0À2-8 : 0À2-8. This composition is incorporated into a solution of 2-chloro-1,3- butadiene in a volatile organic solvent in the weight proportions of 1-10 parts of (a), 2-8 parts of (b) and 2-8 parts of (c), per 100 parts by weight of 2-chloro-1,3-butadiene. The composition preferably contains a conventional curing agent such as a metal oxide in an amount of 1-10% by weight. In addition a peptizer, in an amount 0À5-6% by weight of the polymer, may be incorporated. Other conventional additives such as plasticizers and fillers may also be added. The rubber into which the curing composition is incorporated may be used to form sealing gaskets in a container closure. |
