PURPOSE:To accurately detect a damage of the cutting tool, by making a change of signal, clearly identifyable, deriving from a change of cutting status or a disturbance and a damage of the tool. CONSTITUTION:In the case when a work 1, rotatably held by a mounting fixture 11, 12, is processed a cuttinh by a lip of the tool 2, to a tool mounting fixture 3 is installed a signal detecting unit 4, for detecting an acoustic emission signal detected from a cutting field of and near around the tool 2, with its output signal given to an amplitude demodulator 7 through a preamplifier 5 and a filter 6. And an output of this demodulator 7 is fed to a tool damage decision unit 8, here with a counting operated by a counter circuit 82 for those of generation frequency, accumulation, etc. of the component exceeding a specific threshold value in a level discrimination circit 81. In this way, a vibration or disturbance deriving from thw work of intermittent cutting can be effectively removed, capable of clearly identifying a damge of the cutting tool. |
