Card key controlled hotel door lock - has combed slide with pivoting jamming bits controlled by twin notched card inserts

The card-key controlled door lock is esp. for hotels and uses twin interchangeable notched cards (C, R) for lock-control. One card (R) is installed in the mechanism for jamming of the bolt. The other card (C) is held by authorised personnel and is inserted to liberate the bolt. The lock is simply changed by substituting one pair of cards for another, and lost cards are easily identified by its counterpart (R) which remains in the lock. The system may incorporate a U-section sliding bolt of which the legs are slotted (1a, 1b) to form transversely aligned combs. Suspended (4) pivotable (3) 'T' pieces (2, 8) may be used to jam the bolt (1), with their steams (8) entering bolt slots (1a, 1b) when inclined from the vertical.
