Hydroxy free alkyd resins (I) are prepd. by reacting fatty acid modified (I) with an acid no. of 30-150 with: HOCH2CH2CH3 (II) until the acid no. is 5-35 pref. 15-30. (I) are soluble or easily dispersible in water without the need of neturalisation with large amts. of amines. (I) may be used as drying esp. oven drying, water dilutable lacquers. Films of (I) are less sensitive to water and basic mediums than the neutralised alkyds.
