The infrared remote control receiver has an IR photodiode as a receiver in series with a resistor. The AC voltage across the resistor is applied via a capacitor to the base of a transistor forming a first amplification stage. Two further amplification stages are connected to the output of the first stage. The output signal from the third stage produces a voltage drop across a resistor. This drops is rectified and amplified and applied to an RC circuit as a DC signal for controlling the brightness circuit.
