PRODUCTION OF ORIENTATION CONTROL FILM

PURPOSE:To obtain the orientation control films of high performance readily and inexpensively by coating the specified high plymer films of photosetting type on substrates and electrodes and allowing them to set then subjecting the same to rubbing treatment in the specified direction. CONSTITUTION:High polymer resin 3 of photosetting type whose base resin is polyimide base resin such as polyimide, polyester imide, etc. or polyisoindolo quinazolinedione base resin or other is coated on a substrate 1 having electrodes 2. After the film has half cured, a mask having the specified patterns is mounted. Next, ultraviolet rays, etc. are radiated to allow the film to set sufficiently. The uncured portions are removed by a solvent and the photoset film is subjected to rubbing treatment in the specified direction or the photoset film is further heated to a temperature above 200 deg.C and is then subjected to rubbing treatment. It is preferable to add 0.01-10wt% of phitosensitizer to, e.g., polyimide-isoindolo quinazolinedione, as the foregoing photosetting high polymer in using said high polymer.
