PURPOSE:To provide a lower frequency and lower power consumption, by lengthening an afterglow time of a fluorescent lamp on which voltage is impressed at a given cycle. CONSTITUTION:An electrode 11 comprising a cold-cathode or a hot-cathode attached is sealed to the ends of a cross-sectionally circular and straight tubular glass bulb 10, a plurality of fluorescent lamps 1a, 1b, 1c whose bulb insides are formed with fluorescent coatings 12 are sequentially placed in on and off, and their on-and-off cycles within the duration of each afterglow is set to allow their entire faces to be apparently radiated in succession. The afterglow time is then made longer than the afterglow duration of a fluorescent lamp by comprising its bulb inside coated with antimony and manganese-containing active calcium halophosphate phosphor, and also argon gas filled sealingly therein within the limited pressure range below 3Torr. No flickering occurs, therefore, even with longer pause time, whereby enabling a frequency to be lowered for lower power consumption. |
