The coffee-making apparatus has a cold water container (1), a water heating device (5) and an interposed water pump (2) which is connected to the cold water container by means of a pipe (6) and to the water heating device by means of a pipe (7). In order to prevent the water pump having to operate too long in a dry run when the coffee-making apparatus is started up, the water pump is to be filled previously with water, which takes place with the aid of an auxiliary pump, for example in the form of a bellows (20), arranged in the cold water container and at the end of a hose (6) extending into the cold water container, which hose constitutes the pipe connection between the water pump (2) and the cold water container (1). <IMAGE>
