<p>PURPOSE:To obtain methacrylic acid in high yield by the catalytic gaseous oxidation of isobutylene and/or t-butanol in the reaction vessel which has two separated catalytic reaction zones, using a specific catalyst in the second reaction zone. CONSTITUTION:Isobutylene and/or t-butanol are made to react with O2 in the presence of an oxidation catalyst to give methacrylic acid, using a reaction vessel which has two separated catalytic reaction zones. In the first reaction zone, a catalyst (e.g. catalyst of formula I, etc), effective for the oxidation of isobutylene and/ or t-butanol is used; and in the second reaction zone, a catalyst (e.g. catalyst of formula III etc.) having the composition of formula II (a-e are number of atoms of Mo, V, P, X, O; X is at least one sort of element selected from Cu, Sn, Th, Al, Ge, Ni, Fe, Co, Zn, Ti, Pb, Re, etc.). EFFECT:The use of only one reaction vessel reduces the cost.</p> |
