A plate (3) fixed to the bed frame (2) bears two bars (4, 5) which are pivotable about the axle (6) and are each attached to the foot part (7) and head part (8) respectively. The pivoting-up of the foot part (7) can be facilitated by a spring (22) belonging to a lifting aid in order to make the box-like bed frame (2) accessible. The inclination of the head part (8) can be controlled infinitely variably by a longitudinally adjustable gas pressure spring (10). The plate (3) can be assigned a second plate on the other side of the bed. In this case, the longitudinally adjustable spring (10) can also act via a torsion bar (9) on the bar of the second plate belonging to the head part (8). By means of this design, a simple, low and space-saving construction is achieved. All the members are combined in one fitting which can be produced efficiently and cost-effectively. <IMAGE>
