Inward rolling of the bead of a tyre body having an internal lip which seats in a groove in the wheel rim is inhibited by either (a) building up an integral bulge of rubber near the edge of the inner face of the tyre sidewall, or (b) by building up the wheel rim profile on the inboard crest of the groove for locating the tyre bead lip. The exaggerated tyre and/or wheel rim profiles pref. block the sidewall against rotation by more than 90% from its normal working posn. This prevents the tyre lip from developing into an effective lever for disengaging the tyre bead from its proper posn. on the wheel rim under severe laterial stresses. Pref. the added bulge is of rubber of >=50, pref. 60-96 degrees. Shore hardness, and some internal reinforcement follows the profile of the bulge surfaces. |
