PURPOSE:To enable one head to cope efficiently with monaural stereophonic and four-channel operations, by making it possible to vary freely the effective track width of a tape. CONSTITUTION:Between cores 1 and 1' used for an ordinary magnetic head of high curie temperature, low-curie-point magnetic core 4 is provided and respective elements are stacked on a tape sliding surface aligning in a magnetic-gap direction. The moment a signal current flows through windings 3 and 3' around cores 1 and 1', provided magnetic flux flows into core 4 to attain recording over the entire track width in a monaural mode and in reproduction operation, a signal is picked up from a magnetic tape even at the part of core 4. Next, core 4 turns into a nonmagnetic substance by being heated above a curie temperature by heating element 5 fixed to the back part of core 4 and, in consequence, cores 1 and 1' are magnetically separated to operate as a two-channel stereophonic head. |
