PURPOSE:To accurately obtain the required diameter of the fiber end faces by fixing a conical type tapered fiber into a conductor auxiliary sleeve, positioning the same so that the fiber assumes a required diameter at its end and electrically detecting the rate of polishing. CONSTITUTION:A fiber 1 is fixed by means of an insulation-type adhesive agent 3 into an auxiliary sleeve 2 composed of conductor and its end part is protruded by a polishing length a from the end face of th sleeve 2. It is so set that the tapered part 1a of the fiber 1 assumes a required diameter b at the end face of the auxiliary sleeve 2. The auxiliary sleeve 2 is fixed by means of an insulation-type adhesive agent 5 into a connector sleeve 4. The end faces of the sleeve 4 and fiber 1 are made flush. The end face of the connector 6 is polished by a polishing machine 7 to which voltage is applied between the same and the auxiliary sleeve 2. When the polishing length a is reached, the polishing machine 7 and sleeve 2 shorts and this completes the polishing work. Hence, the required diameter b of the end face of the fiber may be accurately obtained. |
