New linear, unbranched polymer materials which have in their basic structure repeating units of the formula <IMAGE> where the radicals R1, R2, R3, R4 and also @ m, Q and Z are each as defined in formula I of Claim 1, are prepared from a starting polymer material of the formula <IMAGE> where @, R1, R2 and Q are each as defined in formula II of Claim 1, which is reacted with a compound which introduces the radicals R3 and R4 by the method of N-alkylation. These polymers are useful as antimicrobial agents, flocculants, electroconductive agents for paper coating processes, antistats, chelating agents and bile acid binders; they can also be used as components for changing the electric conductivity. |
