The bearing plate slides in the lengthwise direction and has a tension roller mounted on it, being particularly for use with a toothed belt driving the cam shaft of an automotive engine. It is bridge-shaped, with a spindle riveted into the central offset portion accommodating the ball-bearing for the roller. Mounting flanges with elongated holes extend from the central portion and one of them is also extended below the central portion to form a centring boss for a coil-type compression spring. The plate (1) is of relatively thin sheet metal, while all round its periphery a stiffening edge (7) is bent over in the direction away from the roller (5).
