Two-tier storage of vertical long fuel elements - with upper and lower racks connected to improve convection

A storage frame for irradiated, long fuel elements esp. from light water reactors is intended for use in a storage pool. Above the lowest row of storage frames or racks a second, higher row of racks is held in position by lateral supports projecting from the wall of the pool. The components of the upper rack are connected by seals to the components of the lower rack, so that improved convection through both racks is produced to provide improved cooling.
