The connector is in two parts(1, 2) attached to the ends of two respective optical fibres(4, 5), at least one part(1, 2) of the connector being spring-loaded in the axial direction. Each of the two parts(1, 2) has an axial bore receiving the optical fibre(4, 5), with the end of each of the latter stabilised by a glass tube(12, 13) contained within the bore. The glass tube(13) of one part(2) projects beyond the front face of the latter, with the projecting section(14) flared outwards. The optical fibre(4) of the other part(1) extends beyond its front face, so that when the two parts(1, 2) are assembled together it fits into the projecting section(14) and abuts the end of the other optical fibre(5) lying inwardly of this section(14).
