A method and an arrangement for generating an electric current by oxidation of hydrogen, hydrocarbon or other fuel in a fuel cell in contact with a water-containing electrolyte and in contact with an anode for oxidation of the fuel, which anode has a metal sulphide on its surface as electric catalyst for the oxidation, wherein the method and the arrangement are characterised in that the oxidation occurs in contact with a water-containing electrolyte with a pH of 5-10 and at an anode on whose surface the metal sulphide component consists predominantly of a sulphide of at least one transitional metal, which has a lower valency than the maximum possible, so that the sulphide has a deficit of sulphur, and the electrolyte may be liberated of CO2 during the operation of the cell, wherein the electrolyte may be agitated to facilitate the removal of CO2 from it. <IMAGE> |
