An electrical flash unit is attached to the side of a camera and has a pop-up on/off switch incorporating the capacitor charge state indicator light. The flash unit is coupled to an aperture control on the camera by means of a plunger switch unit. The indicator unit(9) with lamp(8), is part of a switch control unit(24, 26) with switch movement(25) coupling indicator on/off unit(9) with the camera aperture mechanism via a plunger(37, 40) through the body of the camera(1). Operation of the camera aperture scale alters the position of the switch member(25) in the flash unit. The coupled indicator light then shows the operating conditions for the flash to prevent misoperation.
