A movement detection system including a detector arrangement (205) for detecting the movement between a plurality of picture points from a selected portion of the picture. A control arrangement (206, 250) or (300, 206) determines that movement has occurred if at least some of the plurality of picture points have moved as detected by the detector. The movement detection is described for use in a noise reduction system.
