NEW MATERIAL:A hydroxypropyl ether-derivative of glycolipid ester of formula I [R<1> is methyl or H; when R<1> is methyl, R<2> is 11-15C saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group, and when R<1> is H, R<2> is 12-16C saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group; A is group of II; R<3> is 1-20C saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group or (A)hH; a-h are integers; the sum of a to h is 1-60]. EXAMPLE:Polyoxypropylene[(2'-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl -beta-D-glucopyranosyl)oxy] alkanoic acid which is a paste having light yellow color. USE:A cosmetic stick such as lipstick and eye shadow. No exudation of oil or powder. Stable compression strength with time. PROCESS:The compound I is prepared by reacting a glycolipid III (R<4> is 1-20C hydrocarbon group or H) or its ester with propylene oxide in the presence of an alkaline catalyst.
