2,3,5,6-Tetrachloropyridine and pentachloropyridine are prepared by reacting a chlorosubstituted (trichloromethyl) pyridine in the liquid state with chlorine at temperatures of at least about 160 DEG C in the presence of a Lewis acid type catalyst. The products are useful as intermediates for the preparation of herbicides and pesticides. |
