RAILWAY CAR FOR TRANSPORTING VEHICLES

Disclosed is a railway car for transporting vehicles, which car includes a car body having a floor. A plurality of longitudinally spaced upright side posts are connected to the body on opposite sides of the floor, and a deck is supported from the side posts in vertical spaced relation above the floor. The deck includes a pivoted deck section pivotally mounted along one edge for vertically swinging movement between the posts between raised and lowered positions about an axis extending transversely of the car. An improved support and movement limiting arrangement is provided for the pivoted deck which arrangement includes an arm extending diagonally between the pivoted deck section and an adjacent post, and means pivotally supporting an end of the arm on the adjacent post to accommodate movement of the arm in a vertical plane extending longitudinally of the car. Second means pivotally connect the other end of the arm to the pivoted section, the second pivotal means including guide means protectively carried within the pivoted deck section and including stop means limiting longitudinal movement of the other end of the arm relative to the pivoted deck section in a direction substantially parallel to the pivoted deck section for supportively limiting arcing movement thereof.
