Wire electrode has a composition (in wt.%) 5-38% zn, 0.1-5% Si and the balance Ca-, or alternatively 30-40% Zn, 0.1-1.2% Si, 0.01-0.2% Al and the balance Cu. The second embodiment may also contain one or two of Ga, In, Sn, Mg, Zr and Y in an amount 0.05-0.5 wt.% total. Electrode permits faster working speed, provides a uniform and accurate shaped surface and is low cost.
