1311835 Coating CELANESE COATINGS CO 20 April 1971 [20 April 1970] 10064/71 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] Substrates including leather are coated with dispersions of a film-forming polymer of one or more ethylenically unsaturated compounds, e.g. methyl methacrylate, in an organic liquid medium in which the polymer is substantially insoluble, the dispersions containing, as dispersion stabiliser, a compound containing a cellobiose unit (or O-substituted cellobiose unit) or a chain of such units, which compound is swollen by or soluble in said liquid medium. The stabiliser may be cellobiose itself but preferred stabilisers are cellulose acetate butyrate, cellulose acetate stearate, cellulose acetate decanoate, ethyl cellulose or lauryl cellulose. The dispersions may contain conventional additives including pigments, coalescing aids and plasticisers. Coating can be effected by brushing, spraying or dip-coating and the coatings can be baked, if desired. |
